THE GRAMMAR APPROACH
The grammar based course takes a traditional approach used for learning language. This approach takes the student through a course full of learning vocabulary with a high emphasis on learning the underlying grammar of the language. Some might think of this as the “elementary school” approach in the sense that you are learning Turkish much in the same way that English is typically taught in elementary school.
The grammar based courses are targeted for those who really learn language by learning all the technicalities and rules. Taking this approach, the student typically develops a firm grasp of written language quicker than oral language. Each section of this method is two months, inclusive of holidays.
Course Descriptions
BASIC 1 – TEMEL 1
8 Week Course
As an introductory course to the Turkish language, major learning objectives include reading, writing, and speaking simple questions and sentences. An initial grasp of the language and grammar structure will aid the student in basic conversation relating to self, family, work, and basic conversational pieces. The beginning levels stress the importance listening and understanding in order to build a proper foundation for language learning.
BASIC 2 – TEMEL 2
8 Week Course
In part two of beginner level Turkish, the student will gain an adequate understanding of past, present continuous, and future tenses that were introduced in level 1. Learning objectives include understanding more complex sentences, special topics, and an introduction to higher-level grammar concepts. The student will be able to speak in basic conversation and give simple answers to complex questions.
INTERMEDIATE 1 – ORTA 1
8 Week Course
The learning objectives in intermediate Turkish Level 1 include the student’s mastery of everyday conversation, as well as communicating more complex questions and answers. The student will be able to complete compositions about special topics, as well as grow in understanding of complex conversations.
INTERMEDIATE 2 – ORTA 2
12 Week Course
Intermediate Turkish Level 2 objectives focus on complex grammar learning objectives in reading, writing, and conversation. The ability to ask and answer more complicated questions and answers will enhance the students’ ability to converse about more complex subjects. The student should have an effortless ability to listen and understand the language.
ADVANCED 1 – YÜKSEK 1
Self-paced lessons
In Advanced Turkish Level 1 the main objectives will be developing the students’ fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The student will have the ability to use complex sentences in creative writing and speaking exercises. Films, newspapers, and new programs will be commonly used in the classroom to gain fluency.
ADVANCED 2 – YÜKSEK 2
Self-paced lessons
In the upper advanced stage of Turkish, students will be developing high-level fluency of advanced topics, and the ability to communicate these topics via classroom presentations, written compositions, and creative classroom exercises.
